We are thrilled to announce the Moon and Stars Memories Walk will be back on 31 July at Castle Field, Southsea and is kindly being supported by our friends at Alexandra Sports.
This poignant, yet fun event combines our two most popular fundraisers, the Moonlit Memories Walk and children’s Starlit Walk, and is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the life of those we love and those we have lost.
This is your chance to meander under the moon or stroll under the stars and celebrate being back together with friends, family, and loved ones. It will also give us an opportunity to remember those who are no longer with us whilst raising much needed funds for Rowans Hospice Charity.
To ensure everyone stays safe we will be offering participants a choice of start times and distances…places are limited so be quick to ensure you can book your preferred start time!

In light of COVID-19 restrictions, we have had to change our usual route. The new Moon and Stars Memories Walk is approximately 3 miles (lap twice for 6 miles, lap three times for 9 miles…all distances are approximate) and will still be taking in views of the many fantastic and iconic sites of Portsmouth & Southsea, including The Spinnaker Tower, Clarence Pier, and The Round Tower.
Route updated 27 July – Due to Sea Defence works currently being carried out, we have made a slight amendment to the route. Please find the full updated route below.
The route will take you past Portsmouth Cathedral which will be open from 7pm. You are welcome to visit for a moment of reflection, however please ensure you wear a face covering (unless you are exempt) and adhere to social distancing guidelines. To ensure we keep everyone safe and respect the Cathedral’s neighbours, please do not queue outside, but visit on your next lap.
Dogs are welcome on the Moon and Stars Memories Walk and inside Portsmouth Cathedral, however they must remain on a lead at all times.
Please note the Moon & Stars Memories Walk will be taking place on a route throughout Portsmouth and Southsea, with staggered starts beginning at 6pm. All participants will be walking on public footpaths and there will be no road closures in place for this event, so therefore it is NOT suitable for children to walk alone.
All children under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied, throughout the walk, by a registered adult.
To ensure we keep everyone safe the Moon and Stars Memories Walk will be a staggered start and we ask that you do not arrive any earlier than 25 minutes before your booked start time. Places are limited for each start time, so book quickly to ensure you don’t miss out on your preferred time!
Start times and distances are as follows:
9 Mile Wave
Start times: 18:00, 18:30 or 19:00
6 Mile Wave
Start times: 19:30, 20:00 or 20:30

What to wear?
If you have taken part in the Moonlit Memories Walk in previous years and still have your t-shirt then please feel free to wear it on the night. Pair it with tutu’s, layers, funky leggings, fairy lights, glow sticks, or fancy dress…the choice is yours, but the bigger and brighter the better.
If the Moon and Stars Memories Walk is new to you, or you no longer have a Moonlit t-shirt, they will be available at the event for a suggested minimum donation of £5 (subject to availability).
Facepainting is always fun, watch our video from Rowans Hospice Charity supporters, Glitter Fairies who will have made this special face painting tutorial for all of our Moon and Stars Memories Walkers.
We are delighted to welcome back the Big Noise Samba Band who will be playing their fantastic samba-reggae sounds to get everyone motivated before their wave sets off from Castlefield.
We are so excited to announce that the fabulous Spinnaker Chorus will also be performing on the night. Spinnaker Chorus is Portsmouth’s very own, award winning acapella group and whose performance is not one to be missed.
Finally, you can be assured our fantastic marshals will be waiting all along the route to keep you on the right path and cheer you along.
We are delighted that Trickett’s catering will be joining us on Castle Field all evening. If you would like to purchase some tasty, warm food and refreshments before or after your walk please ensure you bring a cashless payment method.
There will be no water stations either on Castle Field or on the route so please bring plenty of water, especially if it’s a warm evening.
Toilet facilities will be available at both the D-Day Museum and at Clarence Pier (there will be no toilet facilities on Castle Field itself).
Please be aware that parking charges apply until 6pm at the Avenue De Caen, Clarence Parade and Clarence Esplanade car parks and until 8pm at Pyramids and D-Day Museum car parks.
